Practical Skills
The MDP is a web-site about web-design. The site itself is the main display of the technical skills of the developer. A web site needs to be attractive and functional. If a user can't get to the desired page within three clicks they are likely to go elsewhere. The WebSchool site was designed to reflect both aspects, aesthetic and functional, so as to provide a model for students using the site.
Web Design is an odd mix of fine arts and computer code writing and editing. Often these components are separated out to different members in a team. In a classroom situation, this mix of disparate skills can be an advantage, allowing for more complex, challenging and diverse tasks.
By creating my own graphics, rather than using stock images or clip art, I have shown some skill with graphics and image manipulation. The WebSchool site itself shows some more advanced programming techniques; JavaScript rollovers, PHP scripts and CSS design and layout.
